The Ministry of Defence on Monday announced that the theme for the Republic Day 2025 tableaux is “Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas” (Golden India: Heritage and Development). This annual display on Kartavya Path features creative and cultural exhibits from states, Union Territories, and central ministries.
Due to time constraints in the Republic Day Parade, only 15 states and Union Territories — Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli & Daman and Diu, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal — were selected.
Additionally, 11 ministries and departments of the Union government will showcase their tableaux during the parade. States and UTs not selected for Kartavya Path can present their displays at Bharat Parv, held at Red Fort from January 26 to 31, 2025.
The Defence Ministry stated that the selection process was fair, transparent, and merit-based. The chosen tableaux will represent India’s diverse cultural heritage and its development journey, embodying the theme “Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas” for a global audience.
In preparation for the event, the Ministry adopted an approach earlier this year to enhance the quality of the tableaux. A senior-level meeting in April 2024 led to key suggestions for improvement, which have been incorporated into the selection process.
Proposals for tableaux were invited from all states, Union Territories, and Union government ministries. An Expert Committee, comprising professionals in art, culture, music, architecture, and choreography, evaluated the entries. The selection criteria focused on originality, creativity, aesthetic composition, and a clear balance between heritage and development. Proposals with repetitive ideas were excluded.
