5 Telangana men reunite with families after spending 18 years in Dubai prison

An emotional reunion of families took place at the Hyderabad airport on Wednesday morning as Telangana natives who had been serving a prison term in Dubai for the last 18 years finally returned home.

Tears of joy were shed as these men met and hugged their family members.

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party’s Working President and Sircilla Leader KT Rama Rao’s (KTR) efforts led to the prisoners’ release, reuniting them with their families.

The five individuals belonging to Rajanna Sircilla district — Shivarathri Mallesh, Shivarathri Ravi, Gollem Nampally, Dundugula Laxman, and Shivarathri Hanmanthu — who were working in Dubai, were booked in the case of the death of a Nepali national and were imprisoned in a Dubai jail.

After filing an appeal, a 25-year sentence was imposed. According to Dubai’s laws, there is a possibility of release if the family members of the deceased beg for forgiveness. In 2011, MLA KTR took the initiative and visited the family members of the deceased in Nepal, presenting them with a check of Rs 15 lakh.

Last year, KTR urged the United Arab Emirates government to approve the mercy petition of the five men and also met with top officials in Dubai regarding the case.

Finally, all five men were set free after the Dubai court’s amnesty. KTR also arranged their flight tickets back home.

“So glad these guys are home,” KTR posted on X, sharing a video of the reunion of these men with their families.
