The political contest has intensified for Namakkal, which houses a population of about 14 lakh voters and is currently represented by MP AKP Chinraj from Kongunadu Makkal Desia Katchi. Known for its egg poultry and lorry building industry, Namakkal has earned the nicknames ‘Egg City’ and ‘Transport Hub of South India’. The constituency is predominately located in the Kongu belt.
