A case has been registered against two policemen and six others for allegedly extorting Rs 4.98 lakh from a 19-year-old student by threatening to implicate him in a false drugs case in Maharashtra’s Pimpri-Chinchwad.
Police have so far arrested four people in connection with the case, based on the complaint filed by the student.
The accused have been identified as Anil Chaudhary, Aman Sheikh, Hussain Dange, Mohammad Ahmar Mirza, Shankar Gorde, Munna Swami, Sub-Inspector Hemant Gaikwad and constable Sachin Shejwal.
Police said the accused first gained his trust and collected information. The cops, along with others, hatched a plan to extort money after they found that the teenager is wealthy.
They initially called the student to a cafe, and kept a packet of drugs in his pocket, after which the accused cops searched him. Further, threatening to implicate him in a case of illegal possession of marijuana, the accused demanded Rs 20 lakh. Scared, the student transferred Rs 4.98 lakh to the accused’s account.
