Rajasthan: 2 cars collide in Sikar, several dead and injured


Six people died while five others were injured on Sunday after two cars collided with each other on a highway in Rajasthan’s Sikar district.

According to the police, the incident happened in the Laxmangarh area of the city where a car going from Sikar towards Laxmangarh crossed the divider and collided with another car on the other side of the road.

After the incident, the injured were rushed to a local hospital in Sikar. Later, three people were referred to a better health facility in Jaipur.

“We received input about an accident on a highway in the outskirts of Lakshmangarh in which a Bolero and an Ertiga car collided with each other. Five people died on the spot while another person died while being taken to the hospital. Five people were also injured in the accident,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dharmaram while speaking to the media.

“We are trying to ascertain the identity of the dead as well as those injured based on the identification cards that we received from the crushed vehicles,” he added.

According to the preliminary investigation, people travelling in Bolero were returning to their village after celebrating ‘Makar Sankranti‘ in Laxmangarh while the people travelling in Ertiga were going towards Lakshmangarh from Sikar, the DSP said.

A probe has been launched into the case to find out the exact reasons behind the crash, he added.

After the incident, Sikar’s Lok Sabha MP Sumedhanand Saraswati and the Inspector General (IG) of the concerned region, Satyendra Singh Kalyan, also visited the hospital to check the well-being of the injured.

Speaking to the media, Saraswati said, “Two cars collided with each other near Lakshmangarh in which five people died on the spot, while another person died while being taken to the hospital. The injured are receiving treatment in the hospital and I have spoken to the Chief Minister (Bhajan Lal Sharma) to ensure free-of-cost treatment them”.
