The cold spell over Delhi and adjoining areas continued on Monday as minimum temperatures were recorded in the range of 3–7 degrees Celsius over most parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
A thin layer of fog was visibile over most parts of the capital, leading to low visibility. At 3 am today, the visibility reduced to zero at Delhi airport, but improved a bit at 5.30 am. Current visibility is at 50 meters, runway visibility is 250 meters to 400 meters.
Dense fog conditions are likely to continue for at least 2 hours.

Parts of north India have been reeling under extremely cold weather conditions with dense fog leading to a drop in visibility up to 25 metres.
A red alert has been sounded for 16 Punjab and 8 Haryana districts. Today, the lowest minimum temperature was recorded in Ludhiana at 2.5 degrees Celsius. The weather department has predicted no significant relief till January 16 and said a new western disturbance will be active thereafter which will impact the weather and cause rain.
DELHI SCHOOLS TO REOPEN TODAY
Schools in Delhi will reopen for physical classes from today as the extended winter break ends, but as a precautionary measure for the prevailing cold wave and foggy conditions, class timings have been changed.
No classes will start before 9 am and no classes will run beyond 5 pm, an order issued by the Education Department on Sunday stated. All teaching and non-teaching staff will have to report to duty as usual, the order said.
