A 32-year-old activist from Tamil Nadu’s Madurai, who exposed illegal stone quarrying through social media, was assaulted at his home on Saturday by a member of the illegal mining mafia.
The activist, Gnanasekaran, had been documenting illegal stone quarrying activities in the Vadipatti area by recording videos and uploading them on social media to expose the operations.
On Saturday, while Gnanasekaran was at home, Murugan, who works as a driver at one of the stone quarries, brutally attacked him.
Gnanasekaran was rescued and taken to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the Vadipatti Police arrested Murugan based on Gnanasekaran’s complaint and have initiated an investigation into the incident.
