MK Stalin’s party passes resolution against Amit Shah over Ambedkar remark

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s executive committee meeting, chaired by party president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, on Sunday passed 12 resolutions. The first resolution condemned Home Minister Amit Shah over his recent remarks on BR Ambedkar in Parliament. The resolution alleged that senior BJP leader insulted Ambedkar.

“It is a shame that the nation’s Home Minister has spoken in such a derogatory manner inside the temple of democracy. The executive committee believes the drama staged by the BJP inside and outside Parliament to divert attention from the Home Minister’s speech is extremely comical,” the resolution stated.

Amit Shah, on December 17, criticised the Congress, claiming it had become a “fashion” for the party to frequently invoke Ambedkar’s name. Shah had said, “It has now become a fashion — Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar. If they had taken God’s name this many times, they would have earned a place in heaven over seven lifetimes”.

Shah’s comments on Ambedkar saw massive protests from the opposition parties demanding his resignation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, however, defended Amit Shah’s remarks and said that the Home Minister exposed Congress’ dark history of insulting Ambedkar, after which they are clearly stung and stunned by the facts he presented.

In a series of posts on X, PM Modi said that Congress sat in power for years but did nothing to empower the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities.
