Hemant Soren’s government in Jharkhand to set to disburse an enhanced amount of Rs 2,500 to beneficiaries of Maiya Samman Yojana from December 28.
The Maiya Samman Yojana aims to empower women economically and socially, particularly in rural areas, by fostering self-reliance and strengthening the rural economy.
A grand event is planned at Army Ground, Namkum, in the neighbourhood of Ranchi, where Chief Minister Hemant Soren will officially release the funds into the accounts of 55 lakh women.
Nearly five lakh women, including those from distant districts like Sahibganj and Dumka in the Santhal Pargana division, are expected to attend the ceremony.
This allowance fulfils a key election promise made by Soren, who pledged to raise the benefits if the INDIA bloc returned to power.
The scheme, which previously provided Rs 1,000 instalments to around 50 lakh women, proved to be a decisive factor in the recent assembly elections, significantly boosting women voter turnout and helping the INDIA bloc’s victory.
By putting money directly into women’s hands, the Soren government envisions long-term societal and economic upliftment.
