Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders on Friday met senior Congress leaders to take up seat-sharing arrangements for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Sources present at the meeting said that no issues had arisen concerning the alliance between both parties in Delhi. Both parties have concordantly stressed they will field their respective candidates for all seats in Punjab. This comes in an attempt to maximise their collective political clout and increase their chances of a favourable electoral outcome.
The only pending decision at this juncture is determining which party will contest four seats while the other one takes on three.
Notably, there have been no conclusions about which party will contest which seats, sources said.
AAP and Congress are frequent rivals but have come together in the Opposition’s INDIA bloc, in a bid to wipe out the BJP-led Centre.
Besides Delhi and Punjab, AAP has expressed its desire to expand to other states, including Gujarat, Goa, and Haryana. In response, Congress has agreed to consult with its local state leadership within the next two to three days and provide feedback.
This indicates the readiness of the Congress party to engage in negotiations that can also accommodate the ambitions of AAP.
The likelihood of AAP and Congress participating as INDIA alliance partners in the upcoming elections has increased significantly, especially in Delhi and Gujarat.
