The Mysuru City Corporation’s proposal to rename a stretch of the historic KRS Road as “Siddaramaiah Aarogya Marg” after Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has stirred controversy. A public notice was issued on December 13, inviting citizens to share their views on the proposal within 30 days.
The decision has faced sharp criticism from the Janata Dal (Secular), which called the move “condemnable.” The party accused the Congress-led Karnataka government of using appointed officials in the absence of an elected council in the Mysuru City Corporation to push the renaming agenda.
“There is no elected board in the Mysore Metropolitan Corporation. The officials appointed by the Congress’s Karnataka government have decided to name the road after Siddaramaiah to repay his debt,” said a post by JD(S).
They labelled the proposal as an insult to Mysuru’s historical legacy and a betrayal to the state’s people.
“Renaming the road after the corrupt Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who has exploited Muda, is not only an insult to the historic city of Mysuru but also a betrayal and disgrace to the entire state” the post by JD(S) further added.
JD(S) leaders further alleged that Siddaramaiah, who hails from Mysuru, is currently under trial in both judicial and Lokayukta cases over allegations of fraud and illegal land acquisition in Muda.
