Actor Allu Arjun approached the Telangana High Court on Wednesday, seeking to cancel an FIR filed against him in connection with the death of a woman during the premiere of his film Pushpa 2: The Rule in Hyderabad.
The incident occurred on December 4 when a large crowd gathered at Sandhya Theatre to see the actor. A 39-year-old woman, identified as Revathi, died due to asphyxiation, and her eight-year-old son was hospitalised. The police registered a case against Arjun, his security team, and the theatre management on December 5, following a complaint from the woman’s family.
The charges were filed under Sections 105 and 118 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Chikkadpally police station. Three individuals — one of the theatre’s owners, a senior manager, and the in-charge of the lower balcony — were arrested during the investigation.
In his plea to the High Court, Arjun requested that the FIR be cancelled. The court is expected to hear the matter soon.
Earlier, the actor had announced financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh to the family of the victim.
The special shows for Pushpa 2 had been scheduled for December 4 at 9.30 pm in selected theatres in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Bengaluru. When Allu Arjun arrived at Sandhya Theatre with his family, the crowd became uncontrollable.
Revathi, who was at the theatre with her two sons, was among those caught in the crowd. She and her son were found unconscious and rushed to the hospital. Revathi was declared dead on arrival, and her son, Sri Tej, was transferred to KIMS Hospital in Hyderabad’s Begumpet, where he remained in critical condition.
