Akhilesh Yadav says BJP gave Bharat Ratna to Chaudhary Charan Singh, now beating farmers

Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Friday hit out at the ruling BJP, saying while the government awarded Bharat Ratna to Chaudhary Charan Singh, it is now “beating the farmers” agitating for their demands.

Speaking to IndiaToday.in, Akhilesh Yadav said that the BJP government is oppressing the farmers, spraying tear gas on them, blocking their path, and destroying their businesses.

On the other hand, it is trying to appease the farmers by giving Bharat Ratna to Chaudhary Charan Singh, which won’t work, said the Samajwadi Party leader.

Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the BJP is working for the “10 per cent capitalists in the country”.

“Today, expecting honesty from the BJP is deceiving ourselves. This time, the people will wipe out the BJP in the Lok Sabha polls,” he said.

Akhilesh Yadav also questioned the BJP’s 400 seat winning goal for the Lok Sabha elections, saying it is “beyond comprehension” when the party is “benching 80 sitting MPs and some of its candidates will also have to contest from other seats”.

Asked if his uncle Shivpal Singh Yadav will be contesting elections, Akhilesh Yadav said that this will be decided in the party meeting.

Asked about the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RJD) going to the NDA camp, Akhilesh Yadav said if someone thinks two seats are enough instead of the seven seats the Samajwadi Party had offered, there’s little that can be said about them.
