Allu Arjun’s lawyer draws parallel to Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees stampede case

Telangana High Court hearing actor Allu Arjun’s interim bail case, saw arguments over his alleged involvement in a stampede at the premiere of his blockbuster film ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’ in Hyderabad. The prosecutor argued that the police had issued instructions to prevent disturbances at the theatre, with Allu Arjun’s lawyer drawing parallels to Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Raees’ stampede case.

The incident, which occurred at an iconic Sandhya theatre, left the 39-year-old woman dead, and her minor son critical after a crowd surge in the lower area of the venue. Earlier today, a court sent the Telgu superstar Allu Arjun to 14 days judicial custody.

“The Station House Officer (SHO) advised the theatre management to obtain permission from the commissioner. Later, the SHO also told the theatre to inform the actors not to attend the special show,” the prosecutor said.

Defending Arjun, his counsel argued that the instructions given by the police were unclear. “The police did not indicate that the actors’ presence would lead to death. Actors attending first shows is a common occurrence,” the lawyer said.

The actor is charged under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 118(1) (causing hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Arjun’s lawyer cited a similar case involving Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, who faced charges after a stampede occurred during a promotional event for his film Raees. “The Gujarat High Court and Supreme Court granted Shah Rukh Khan relief, ruling that to charge the actor, the deaths must be directly connected to rash and negligent acts by the accused,” the lawyer said, reading from the judgement.

In Arjun’s defence, the lawyer noted that the actor had merely attended the screening. “The allegation is that a surge occurred in the lower area where the victims were stuck. My client was on the first floor at the time and was simply watching the film. Even the police and theatre management did not ask him not to attend.”
