In a bid to control crime and enhance security measures in Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday directed officials to use drones for proper surveillance and to spot any suspicious activities, among other tasks.
The Chief Minister also suggested using drones to deliver medicines to areas without transportation facilities, improve sanitation in villages and municipalities, and spray pesticides for mosquito control. Additionally, he proposed using drones to monitor forest fires and other disasters.
The directions were issued following a presentation made by a drone-manufacturing company from Bengaluru to the Chief Minister at the Secretariat on Tuesday evening. The deliberations were in line with Andhra Pradesh’s industrial policy to build the state as a drone makers’ hub.
Company officials briefed Naidu and other government representatives on how drones could be used to assess traffic volume in congested areas, identify necessary actions, and monitor security vulnerabilities in real time. They also highlighted the potential for drones to make public announcements in crowded areas and manage traffic congestion.
Following the presentation, Chief Minister Naidu instructed state officials to take immediate steps to expand the use of drones across the state.
The Chief Minister further stressed the importance of raising public awareness about the benefits of drones and directed that they be utilised extensively across all government departments.
The state has recently introduced a new drone policy, which outlines the creation of a State Drone Corporation, the establishment of a Drone Development Centre in Kurnool, and the development of a network of training and manufacturing units.
Andhra Pradesh also forecasts investments of Rs 1,000 crore in the drone sector, with the potential to generate Rs 3,000 crore in annual revenue and create both direct and indirect employment opportunities for 40,000 individuals.
