Andhra Pradesh: TDP-led government approves Amaravathi development works worth Rs 8,821 crore

The TDP-led government in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday approved development works worth Rs 8821.44 crore for the capital city of Amaravathi. The approval came during a Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) meeting held by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

The CRDA meeting focussed on the construction of roads in Amaravathi. Briefing media persons after the meeting, state Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD), P Narayana, said Rs 3,807 crore was allocated for the construction of roads in areas where land had been acquired under the land pooling scheme.

Trunk roads will be laid at a cost of Rs 4,521 crore while Rs 492 crore was allocated for the construction of bungalows for the ministers and the High Court judges, Narayana said.

He also said that the CRDA, at its previous meetings, approved works worth Rs 11,471 crore, which has now increased to Rs 20,292.46 crore following Tuesday’s meeting.

“Layouts for an extent of 236 km covering villages like Nelapadu, Rayapudi, Ananthavaram and Dondapadu have been cleared while trunk roads for 97.5 km have been approved,” Narayana said.

Pointing out that tenders had been called for works worth Rs 41,000 crore from 2014 to 2019, but works worth Rs 5,000 crore were completed, Narayana said the construction costs had gone up due to which the development works had to be fast-tracked.

“Due to this delay in continuing the works, the cost has gone up from 25 per cent to 28 per cent. The construction cost of buildings has increased from 35 per cent to 55 per cent,” he said.

He said if the previous YSRCP government had allowed Amaravathi to be the capital, the cost of the development works would not have gone up by 45 per cent.

The minister said the process of calling tenders for these approved development works will begin by December 15 and will be completed by the end of this month.
