A raid by a joint team of Kolkata and Bihar police busted a massive firearm manufacturing factory that was being run under the guise of a food plate manufacturing unit in Munger district. The factory was being operated from the basement of the residence of one Mohammad Monazir Hussain, who has been arrested. His brother-in-law, Mohammad Nasim, was also arrested.
The operation was conducted by Special Task Force (STF) members of Kolkata Police, Bihar Police, and personnel from Tarapur Police Station. During the raid on Hussain’s residence, the security personnel stumbled upon a secret underground chamber that was manufacturing improvised firearms.
The authorities confiscated a range of firearm components and equipment, including six 7 mm pistol bodies and matching pistol butts. The equipment discovered at the site included a lathe machine, milling machine, drilling machine, grinding and polishing tools, as well as a stockpile of other materials necessary for manufacturing firearms.
The illegal arms manufacturing was allegedly set up by Monazir Hussain, 27. He was assisted by his brother-in-law Nasim (38), and an associate named Irshad Mallick. While Hussain and Nasim were arrested, Mallick is on the run.
This marks the 14th successful bust of such illegal arms manufacturing units in Bihar and in neighbouring Jharkhand over the past three years.
A formal case has been registered at Tarapur Police Station, with police investigating potential connections with larger networks.
Last year, another firearm manufacturing unit operating under the guise of a furniture shop in Bihar was busted by police. The arms were being made inside an establishment called ‘Baba Furniture’ in Gaya.
