Bird flu outbreak confirmed in Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore, restrictions announced

A bird flu outbreak has been reported in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh, where a large number of chickens have died in the past few days.

Officials were alerted as thousands of chickens died in the Chatagutla and Gummalladibba regions, and diagnostic tests confirmed bird flu in the area.

Restrictions have been imposed in the wake of the outbreak. The District Collector ordered that chicken shops within ten kilometres of the area where the chickens died should be closed for three days, and those within a one-kilometer radius should be closed for three months.

Officials from the animal husbandry department had collected samples from the chicken carcasses and sent them to the testing centre in Bhopal.
