The opposition has intensified its attack on the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu, citing a series of brutal incidents that have raised serious concerns about the state’s law and order situation. The opposition leaders have pointed to the recent attacks on a government school teacher, a lawyer, and a shop employee as signs of growing lawlessness under the leadership of Chief Minister MK Stalin.
Opposition leaders were quick to condemn the series of violent incidents, pointing to them as evidence of the failure of the state government to maintain law and order. AIADMK spokesperson Kovai Sathyan questioned the existence of a functioning police force under the current administration, accusing Chief Minister MK Stalin of incompetence. “A common man in Tamil Nadu is living in fear,” Sathyan said, emphasising the lack of action in curbing rising criminal activities.
K Annamalai, President of the Tamil Nadu BJP, called the state’s law and order situation “disastrous.” “These attacks reflect the lawlessness under the DMK government,” he said. “M.K. Stalin should be ashamed of turning Tamil Nadu into a lawless jungle.”
BJP’s youth wing president, Vinoj P Selvam, also expressed his concerns on social media, questioning the government’s response to these violent incidents. “What is happening in Tamil Nadu?” he posted, referring to the teacher’s murder, the lawyer’s attack, and a gang-rape in Vellore. “Is the Chief Minister even aware of the lawlessness?” he asked, demanding immediate action.
L Murugan, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, condemned the brutal attacks, emphasising the vulnerability of professionals like doctors, teachers, and lawyers. “If the police are under the Chief Minister’s control, why are these attacks happening?” Murugan questioned, urging Stalin to wake up to the deteriorating situation.
BJP Tamil Nadu coordinator H Raja also weighed in, accusing the DMK government of a “gross failure” in safeguarding the public. “The recent murders of the teacher and the lawyer are a horrifying reflection of the DMK government’s inability to secure the safety of its citizens,” Raja said, calling for an immediate investigation and justice.
DMK Organising Secretary RS Bharati defended the state government, claiming “In 2020, there were 1,672 murders during the AIADMK rule. That number has dropped to 792 under our government. This shows that law and order is improving in Tamil Nadu.”

The latest wave of violence includes the shocking murder of a teacher, Ramani Madan, at a government school in Mallipattinam, Thanjavur district. Madan was stabbed to death in her classroom.
