BJP leader Suvendu Adhikhari’s security increased amid threat from Bangladeshi fundamentalist group

After reports that a potential attack was being planned on BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari by an Islamic and fundamentalist group based in Bangladesh, the Centre has bolstered the security of the Bengal Leader of Opposition.

A letter from the office of Union Home Minister Amit Shah has instructed security officials for enhanced surveillance, including hourly monitoring of Adhikari’s movement.

As per the new security protocol, Adhikari’s convoy will comprise 22 armed personnel, and bulletproof vehicles will be used in sensitive areas. A ‘D zone’ will be designated for every meeting, and security personnel will conduct thorough searches of individuals attempting to take selfies with Suvendu Adhikari, who enjoys Z+ security from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

These measures aim to provide an additional layer of protection for Adhikari, who may be targeted by militant groups. The Centre’s move to beef up security underscores the gravity of the threats faced by the Bengal LoP.

According to sources, some Intelligence Bureau (IB) officers received input that four people, allegedly linked to a Bangladesh-based group, conducted a recce in Contai, East Medinipur, where Adhikari resides.

The operatives visited the area last week, surveying the surroundings and photographing and filming the residence of the Bengal BJP leader.

Following the intelligence input, the IB alerted both the Kolkata Police and the West Bengal state police to take immediate action. Authorities were instructed to enhance security around Adhikari’s residence and ensure his safety.

The potential attack intel follows a series of remarks and calls for action made by Adhikari against the caretaker government in Bangladesh, led by Chief Adviser and Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus. He has been vocal in his opposition of atrocities on Hindus and the arrest of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das in Bangladesh.
