BRS leader Suresh arrested in Lagacharla assault case involving district collector attack – Telangana News

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) youth wing leader B Suresh, the main accused in the Lagacharla assault case, was arrested and remanded to judicial custody on Tuesday. Suresh is allegedly responsible for orchestrating the attack on the District Collector during a public hearing on land acquisition in Lagacharla village, Vikarabad district, on November 11.

Suresh, who had been absconding for eight days following the attack, surrendered voluntarily at the police station earlier today. He was transferred to Sangareddy Central Jail after undergoing mandatory medical examinations at the Kodangal Government Hospital. Along with Suresh, two other individuals were also apprehended and sent to jail.

The incident took place during a public hearing by the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) on land acquisition for proposed pharmaceutical companies. Villagers protesting the land acquisition confronted the district authorities, including Collector Prateek Jain. Protesters allegedly shoved the Collector, threw stones at his vehicle, and injured several other officials, including an Additional Collector, a senior official from the Kodangal Area Development Authority, and a DSP-ranked police officer.

Suresh, who is accused of planning and instigating the attack, had previously requested the Collector to visit the village so farmers could voice their concerns. When the Collector and other officials arrived, they were ambushed by a mob.

A senior police official confirmed that a Look Out Circular (LOC) had been issued for Suresh, and his passport was seized. The police are continuing their investigation into the incident, with former BRS MLA Patnam Narender Reddy among the 26 individuals arrested so far. Reddy is accused of conspiring with Suresh and overseeing the execution of the attack.
