Chhota Rajan admitted to AIIMS hospital: Underworld don taken from Tihar jail to AIIMS for surgery

Underworld don Chhota Rajan, who is lodged in Delhi’s Tihar jail, was admitted to Delhi’s AIIMS hospital on Friday. According to sources, Rajan has a sinus problem and the doctors have said that he might undergo surgery.

Rajan, who was once Dawood Ibrahim’s close aide, was sentenced to life in 2024 in connection with the murder of hotelier Jaya Shetty in 2001. On October, 2024, Rajan got bail in the same case after the Bombay High Court suspended his life sentence.

However, there was no relief for Rajan as he was behind bars in connection with other cases. In 2018, a special court had also sentenced Rajan to life imprisonment over the killing of journalist J Dey in 2011.

While giving bail, the Bombay High Court directed Rajan to furnish a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh.

Last week, a member of the Chhota Rajan gang was arrested after he had evaded arrest for 32 years. The gangster. Vilas Pawar, was wanted for a 1992 shooting incident at the Dadar police station and a murder case as well.

Pawar, once a close aide of Rajan, maintained a strong grip over his stronghold in Mumbai’s Govandi throughout the eighties.

Rajan was at large for over three decades before he was eventually arrested by the Indonesian police in October 2015. Subsequently, he was extradited from Bali to India.
