The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has denied any lapses in its security measures during the recent scuffle which broke out inside the Parliament between ruling and opposition MPs, which left two BJP members injured.
The CISF, whose responsibility it is to ensure the security of the Parliament House Complex, has chosen to “keep quiet” amid allegations and counter-allegations by ruling and opposition party MPs.
“There was no lapse (by the CISF). By lapse, if you mean some weapons were allowed inside, then I can tell you that no weapon was allowed,” CISF Deputy Inspector General (operations) Shrikant Kishore said during a press conference in Delhi. “We will keep quiet when the honourable members (MPs) make allegations,” he added.
The senior officer made the remarks while responding to a query concerning allegations involving Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the BJP. The BJP accused Rahul Gandhi of pushing its Members of Parliament, Pratap Sarangi (69) from Balasore, Odisha, and Mukesh Rajput (56) from Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh.
In response, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition, claimed that BJP MPs had obstructed him from entering the Parliament House on December 19.
Following the incident, Delhi Police registered an case against Rahul Gandhi on a complaint filed by BJP MP Hemang Joshi. The complainant accused Gandhi of “physical assault and incitement” during the scuffle.
The CISF officer further clarified that no inquiry into the scuffle that broke out near the ‘Makar Dwar’ of Parliament House was going on from their side.
Shrikant Kishore also informed reporters that the MPs are not made to go through frisking formalities during their entry into the Parliament House complex as per protocol.
“We have trained our personnel for this duty (Parliament security) properly. Everyone, including the MPs, are contributing to further improving the security of the complex. Parliament security is paramount,” Kishore added.
The CISF’s statement came hours after the two injured BJP MPs, Sarangi and Rajput, were discharged from Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital on Monday.
Speaking on the development, Mukesh Rajput’s assistant said that the Lok Sabha MP had complained of a little giddiness and heaviness in his head.
However, given the high influx of patients at the RML Hospital, the two MPs were advised to go to Noida’s Kailash Hospital for further assistance.
