Coimbatore police arrest three for smuggling gun intended for techie – Tamil Nadu News


The Coimbatore police arrested three men with a smuggled country-made hand gun. The gun was reportedly to be sold to a person who was apparently an information technology professional.

The Anti-Terrorism Squad, which was tracking information about weapons being smuggled into Tamil Nadu, got a tip-off about two men trying to smuggle a country-made gun.

The three men were identified as two locals Manikanda Prabhu and Harisri, and Kundan Rai from Patna, Bihar. According to the police, Manikanda Prabhu was the supposed buyer in the trade. Sub-Inspector Joseph, and his team from the ATS caught them and recovered a country-made hand gun and six live rounds.

All three were booked under section 25(1)(a) of Arms Act and taken to the Peelamedu Police Station.

According to the First Information Report, the men were caught near Anna Industries in Vinobhaji Nagar area of Coimbatore district. Apart from the gun and the live rounds, the police also seized a bag, three mobile phones and a motorcycle from the three arrested.

Further investigations were underway.
