Delhi on Wednesday recorded India’s highest temperature with the mercury reaching 52.3 degrees Celsius. Apart from the national capital, several places in Northern India are also reeling under the sweltering heat with temperatures hovering close to 50 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, Dehradun on Wednesday also recorded its highest-ever temperature in its history with mercury soaring to 43.1 degrees Celcius.
In Delhi, the extreme summer heat in the city has pushed its peak power demand to an all-time high of 8,302 MW on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the State Load Dispatch Centre, Delhi, the peak power demand of the city was 8,302 MW at 3.30 pm.
In Rajasthan, the intense heat conditions prevailed despite the maximum temperatures falling by one to three degrees Celsius. The state’s Pilani recorded a temperature of 48.2 degrees Celsius, followed by Churu, where the day temperature was 47.7 degrees Celsius.
In Bihar, the government on Wednesday issued the closure of all private and government-run schools, coaching institutes and anganwadi centres until June 8 amid intense heatwave conditions in the state. The decision came in response to reports of several students fainting due to extreme heatwave conditions with temperatures soaring above 44 degrees Celsius.
In Jharkhand, the scorching heatwave persisted on Wednesday, with the maximum temperature soaring to a record 48 degrees Celsius in Garhwa district. An orange alert for severe heatwave conditions was issued for Palamu, Garhwa, and Chatra on May 30, along with a yellow alert for 15 districts in western, southern, and central parts of the state.
