Delhi weather update: IMD issues cold wave alert amid fog, north India shivers as cold wave continues

Delhi on Friday shivered at 3.9 degrees Celsius, the lowest minimum temperature recorded this winter season, as a blanket of dense fog reduced the visibility to zero metres.

Most parts of north India continued to reel under severe cold wave conditions.

Due to the prevailing cold wave conditions, a red alert has been issued for Delhi, Punjab and Haryana for Saturday and an orange alert in the region for tomorrow (Sunday).

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that dense fog and prevailing cold wave conditions are unlikely to abate in parts of northwest India during the next 3 days, till January 16.

“Dense to very dense fog at many places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh and dense fog at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan. Cold day to severe cold day conditions at many places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and at isolated places in Uttar Pradesh,” the weather department said.

“A blanket of dense fog engulfed most parts of Northern India, disrupting rail and air traffic in the entire region. Dense to very dense fog will continue in parts of northwest India during the next 3 days,” it added.

Passengers face difficulty at Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station as several trains run late due to a coldwave.
