Door-to-door registrations for Delhi Mahila Samman, Sanjeevani schemes to begin tomorrow

Former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday announced that the Aam Aadmi Party is going to start registrations for the Mahila Samman and Sanjeevani Yojana from Monday.

As per the Mahila Samman scheme, eligible Delhi women would be entitled to Rs 1,000 per month, while under the Sanjeevani scheme, people aged above 60 years would be provided free treatment at all Delhi hospitals.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers, leaders and ministers in the Delhi government will visit door-to-door to register eligible beneficiaries.

The ruling AAP had announced that the Rs 1,000 aid for women would be increased to Rs 2,100 every month if the party is voted to power in Delhi Assembly elections 2025.

While making the announcement, Kejriwal said, “Women or elderly people do not need to stand in line for any scheme, rather, the team of Aam Aadmi Party will go doo-to-door in every area of Delhi and will register women and elderly people, providing them with a guarantee card, named Kejriwal Kavach Card, like a smart card”.

“Under the Mahila Samman Yojana in Delhi, 35 to 40 lakh women will get the benefit and under Sanjeevani Yojana, about 10-15 lakh elderly people will benefit,” Kejriwal noted.

The AAP national convenor also announced that women and elderly people should keep their voter cards handy during the registration campaign.

He also alleged that there is a conspiracy to delete the names of voters on a large scale in Delhi and assured that if people have their voter cards, then the AAP will get their names added to the voter list again.

The door-to-door registration campaign is also expected to help the Delhi government to get an estimate if their names are there in the voters’ list or not.

During the announcement, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and former minister Manish Sisodia were also present.

WHO ALL ARE ELIGIBLE?

Apart from age, women must also check other boxes to be eligible to receive benefits under the scheme:

  • Family income of the beneficiary must be below Rs 3 lakh per annum.
  • No member of the applicant’s family should be working as a government employee or serve as a public representative.
  • No household member should pay income tax or GST.
  • Women who run businesses or are not residents of Delhi cannot apply.
  • Eligibility requires proof of residence in Delhi, such as an Aadhaar card or voter ID.
  • Applicants should not be beneficiaries of other government financial assistance programs.

The last criterion of excluding women who are benefiting from other government schemes has been brought in to prevent overlapping of government aid and promote equitable distribution of resources.

The move to provide financial assistance to women and free treatment for the elderly by the AAP is being seen as a game changer for the ruling party, which is expected to help them in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.

Meanwhile, the BJP has attacked the AAP for launching the schemes, calling them a ploy to “cheat” the people of Delhi.

“Arvind Kejriwal is the biggest fraud in the world and his job is to sell false dreams! A case of fraud should be filed against him,” the Delhi BJP said in a post on X.

“Before the elections in Punjab, he said that he would give 1,000 rupees to women, but after the elections, he has not given even a single rupee till date. Then before the Lok Sabha elections in Delhi, he said he would give 1,000 rupees, but has not given it till date,” the party added.

All 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly will go to polls, which are likely to be held in late January or early February 2025. The AAP is eyeing a third consecutive term in Delhi, while the BJP is trying to return to power after 27 years.
