Dot Ai unveils ZiM IoT logistics, supply chain tracking solution


SEE ID, Inc., doing business as Dot Ai, launched its new Internet of Things (IoT) tracking hardware called ZiM—short for Zero Infrastructure Mesh. Dot Ai said this technology aims to improve asset tracking in logistics and supply chain management by replacing older and more expensive technologies that logistics operations have depended on for years.

“After years of meticulous research and development, we are launching our ZiM IoT technology in the market,” said Dot Ai chief executive officer Edmund Nabrotzky. “We believe this technology will transform asset tracking for logistics, an industry that relies heavily on manual processes as well as RFID technology, which has not seen major innovation since the 1980s.”

Features of ZiM

The company tells us ZiM was designed to securely gather data at the edge of the enterprise, adding that it can read both passive (battery-free transponders) and active (battery-powered beacons) to provide data for supervisory systems. The bridge can operate on its own battery power when mounted on moving racks or pallets or be hardwired for fixed installation in aisles or doorways. Up to four general-purpose I/O pins are available to connect the bridge to external sensors or signaling devices to enhance workflows. It also has integrated bright signaling LEDs, which Dot Ai said assist workers with common tasks.

Legacy systems often rely on personnel to execute orders and workflows, collecting data only at significant process milestones, the company said. According to Dot Ai, the ZiM hardware acts as an IoT edge solution, enabling real-time and constant data collection throughout the process. The company said this approach provides a rich source of data for optimizing AI integrations, including the AI engine developed by Dot Ai. AI camera integration is also available, enabling object recognition and image/video capture in the asset record as an overlay to process data collected wirelessly by ZiM.

Dot Ai said it’s SaaS software uses agile cloud services, including a Rules Engine to define and enforce application-specific behavior. The engine can constrain, monitor, alert or drive device actions to prevent rule violations, increasing efficiency through machine learning techniques, according to Dot Ai. The company said AI is also used to enhance material handling workflows by providing real-time, context-aware suggestions and actions based on intelligent algorithms and learned enterprise-specific workflows.

Full-scale production and deployment of Dot Ai’s ZiM technology are set for the end of December 2024, with ZiM hardware preorders available now.
