Farmers protesting at the Haryana border claimed that a 21-year-old farmer was killed during a clash with police on Wednesday. However, the police have denied the claim, saying that it was a rumour.
Subhkaran Singh, 21, from Bathinda, died at Khanauri on the Sangrur-Jind border, news agency PTI quoted farmer leader Baldev Singh Sirsa as saying.
Patiala-based Rajindra Hospital’s medical superintendent HS Rekhi said that three people, one of them dead, were brought to the hospital from Khanauri, PTI reported.
The deceased had an injury to his head and the other two are stable, Rekhi said.
However, Haryana Police said in a post on X that it had no information about any protester dying at the border.
“According to the information received so far, no farmer has died today during the protest. This is just a rumour. There is information about two policemen and one protestor being injured at Data Singh-Khanauri border who is undergoing treatment,” the post read.
At the time of filing of this report, India Today TV cannot independently verify whether a farmer died at the Haryana border.
The situation at Shambhu and Khanauri border points turned tense today as Haryana Police fired tear gas shells to disperse farmers who tried to move towards barricades.

Meanwhile, protesting farmers surrounded the security personnel deployed at the Datta Singh-Khanauri border by burning stubble mixed with chilli powder, Haryana Police said, adding that protesters attacked the personnel with sticks, stones, and lathis, resulting in injuries to nearly 12 police officers.
