Fighting drones with patang: Farmers’ creative tactics to evade police blockade

In response to the ongoing farmer protests, the police significantly heightened security measures around this year.

They fortified the city’s borders with multiple layers of barricades, barbed wires, and concrete blocks, aiming to prevent the determined farmers from entering the capital. The police also deployed drones to disperse tear gas over the crowds, particularly at the Shambhu border between Haryana and Punjab.

However, the farmers devised innovative tactics to counter these escalated security efforts. They took to the skies, flying kites as a strategic move to disrupt the drones’ operation, tangling their rotors and limiting the effectiveness of the tear-gas firing zone. Additionally, the protesters donned goggles to protect themselves from the effects of the tear gas.

When faced with the physical barriers of cement blocks on the roads, the farmers showcased their resolve by manually dragging away the blocks and even using tractors to clear their path, undeterred in their march towards Delhi.
