At least four pilgrims from Karnataka were killed in an accident on Thursday when the KSRTC bus they were traveling in collided with a vegetable-laden truck and another heavy vehicle. The victims, mostly from Kolar, were returning home after visiting a temple near Chennai, according to police sources.
The accident took place when the bus, heading towards Bengaluru with around 55 passengers onboard, overtook a tipper lorry. In doing so, the bus collided head-on with a vegetable-laden truck coming from the opposite direction. As a result of the impact, the tipper lorry also rammed into the bus from behind. TV footage showed the bus severely damaged in the aftermath of the crash.
Sadly, all four victims were killed instantly at the scene. Approximately 30 others sustained injuries and were immediately referred to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision. Efforts are ongoing to assist the injured and to determine the cause of the crash.
