INDIA bloc to discuss seat sharing in virtual meet today, Mamata Banerjee to skip


Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, senior leaders of the opposition INDIA bloc will hold discussions on Saturday to chalk out a seat-sharing formula and decide whether to have a convenor of the grouping.

Top leaders of the INDIA bloc, including the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, will attend the meeting.

However, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will not be part of the virtual meeting which is likely to start from 11: 30 am on Saturday.

According to sources, this is the second such attempt to hold a virtual meeting, as the previous attempt a few days ago did not materialise.

In a post on X, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said INDIA party leaders will be meeting over Zoom at 11:30 am on January 13, 2024.

“INDIA party leaders will be meeting over Zoom tomorrow January 13th, 2024 at 11:30 am. They will review various issues like seat-sharing talks that have begun, participation in Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra that will begin from Thoubal near Imphal day after tomorrow, and other important matters. Badlega Bharat Jeetega INDIA!” he said.

Earlier on Friday, leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress also held seat-sharing talks and decided to meet again, with the Congress saying the two parties share “very good chemistry”.

As many as 28 opposition parties have come together under the banner of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) to take on the BJP and defeat it in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
