An air passenger who was arrested by the police for assaulting a co-pilot of an IndiGo flight was granted bail by the authorities on Monday evening.
Earlier in the day, the accused, Sahil Katariya, was arrested by the Central Industrial Police Force (CISF) and was handed over to the Delhi Police for slapping the co-pilot of IndiGo’s Delhi-Goa flight following a delay of over 12 hours.
A purported video of the incident also went viral on social media in which Katariya was seen attacking the flight’s co-pilot Anup Kumar when he was announcing a delay in the take-off due to poor weather conditions.
After the incident, in a statement, IndiGo Airlines said Katariya ‘assaulted’ the co-pilot and that the matter had been referred to an independent internal committee for the inclusion of the passenger on the “no-fly list”.
A case was also registered against him by the Delhi Police under sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) and 290 (punishment for creating public nuisance) of the IPC and section 22 of the Aircraft Rules.
Katariya was released by the authorities as the sections invoked in the complaint against him were bailable.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
