After a video of a passenger assaulting a pilot of a Delhi-Goa IndiGo flight went viral amid a flurry of delays and cancellations of flights due to fog, Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Monday sent out a stern warning to “unruly” passengers.
“Incidences of unruly behaviour amidst this are unacceptable, and will be dealt with strongly in line with the existing legal provisions,” Scindia tweeted even as he assured passengers that all stakeholders were working “round the clock to minimise the fog-related impact”.
The passenger who assaulted the pilot was later arrested and IndiGo has referred the matter to an internal committee seeking his inclusion on the “no-fly list”. The incident happened as the IndiGo pilot was announcing a delay in takeoff at the Delhi airport amid dense fog and low visibility.
In the video, the passenger, identified as Sahil Katariya, is seen rushing towards the pilot inside the aircraft and hitting him. A flight attendant who was standing beside the pilot is seen trying to defuse the situation while breaking down in tears.
Police said the passenger was agitated as the flight was delayed for several hours. The IndiGo flight eventually took off from Delhi at 6 pm after a delay of more than 10 hours, as per flight tracking website flightradar24.
