IndiGo pilot attacked: Woman who shared the video says incident could have been averted

Hours after a video of a passenger attacking a pilot of IndiGo Airlines went viral on social media, the woman who shared the incident online, defended the act of the accused, saying that the extended delay of the airline’s Delhi-Goa flight triggered the incident.

In an exclusive interview with India Today TV, Evgenia Belskia further added, “If the airline crew had been nice, the incident could have been averted”.

“He (the accused) was not a bad guy. I am not saying violence is right, but everyone was frustrated on the flight,” Evgenia added while speaking to India Today TV.

Notably, Evgenia was not a passenger on the flight, but her sister and a few members of her team were travelling on the flight that was bound to Goa.

Evgenia also accused the IndiGo Airlines pilot of blaming the passengers when they questioned him about the flight’s delay of nearly 12 hours.

Sharing further details of the event, Evgenia claimed that passengers had to wait for approximately 12 hours before the take-off, out of which nearly four hours were spent inside the narrow-body Airbus A320 Neo aircraft.

She further accused the onboard crew of negligence by saying that food and water were not offered to the passengers during the waiting time, and it was after the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel arrived, that the airline provided water to the passengers.

CASE BACKGROUND

Notably, the passenger on an IndiGo flight was arrested after he assaulted a pilot who was making an announcement regarding a delay in takeoff at the Delhi airport.

A purported video of the incident, which took place on Sunday, surfaced on social media and showed the accused Sahil Katariya hitting the pilot as he was making the announcement inside the aircraft, which was bound for Goa.
