Karnataka woman, 50, missing for 25 years, found in old age home in Mandi of Himachal Pradesh

A 50-year-old woman from Karnataka, who lost contact with her family 25 years ago, was traced in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi. According to officials, the woman, Sakamma, who was staying in an old age home will rejoin her family and return to her home state on Wednesday.

Sakamma, who belongs to Dananayakanakere village in Karnataka’s Ballari, had attended a relative’s wedding in Hosapete with her children 25 years ago. However, she accidentally boarded a train to Chandigarh and subsequently lived through difficult circumstances across various north Indian states.

She ultimately sought refuge at an old age home in Mandi.

Sakamma’s family had filed a missing complaint and even performed her last rites after she was not found for all these years.

Her contact was established after a young IPS officer visited the old age home and found the woman speaking in Kannada.

The officer then heard Sakamma’s version and later contacted the social welfare department of the Karnataka government. Authorities established contact with the family, and she will now go back home today.
