Patna Police have registered an FIR against the X handle ‘Khan Global Studies,’ associated with renowned educator and YouTuber Khan Sir, accusing it of spreading fake news. The controversy erupted after the handle shared a post demanding Khan Sir’s release, despite him never being arrested. The police clarified that the post was misleading, baseless, and provocative, aimed at confusing students.
Dr Anu Kumari, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Sachiwalaya, stated that the post falsely claimed that Khan Sir had been detained and demanded his release.
“This handle has made a misleading post. Khan Sir was not arrested by us,” she said. The police added that the educator was seen at Gardanibagh police station of his own accord and was later dropped off near Atal Path in a police vehicle at his request.
The police’s statement came amidst ongoing protests by civil service aspirants against the ‘normalisation’ process in the Bihar Public Service Commission’s (BPSC) preliminary examinations. The protesting candidates are demanding a uniform ‘one shift, one paper’ examination to avoid disparities caused by the normalisation process.
On Saturday, police resorted to lathi-charge to disperse hundreds of aspirants who had gathered near the BPSC office in Patna. The students, upset with alleged changes in the examination process, demanded clarity and accountability. However, BPSC officials denied making any changes to the exam rules.
Amid the escalating tensions, Khan Sir was spotted voicing his support for the students.
However, the situation grew more contentious when Khan Sir was seen visiting the Gardanibagh police station. While this fuelled speculation about his arrest, police clarified that he was neither detained nor arrested. “He came on his own and left the station at his request,” Dr Kumari added.
The 70th BPSC Preliminary Examination is scheduled for December 13.
