The National Voters’ Day is celebrated every year on January 25

National Voters’ Day 2024: It is often said that the ballot holds more power than the bullet, and rightly so. The fate of a republic rests in the hands of the voters, and the fundamental rights of Indian voters are outlined in the Constitution. 

The Constitution also specifies the responsibilities that voters must consider before and after casting their votes. Voting is not only a civic duty but also a fundamental tool through which our nation has consistently safeguarded our inherent rights throughout its history.

The National Voters’ Day is celebrated every year on January 25 to encourage the voters to participate in the electoral process. This year the Election Commission of India is celebrating the 11th National Voters’ Day. Dedicated to the crores of voters of the country, National Voters’ Day, is utilized to spread awareness among the people about the importance of voting and participating in the electoral process of one of the world’s largest democracies.

On National Voters’ Day, new voters are felicitated and handed over their Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC).

History and Significance of National Voters’ Day

The National Voters’ Day is celebrated in India on January 25. It was celebrated the first time in 2011, across the country, to mark the foundation day of the Election Commission of India in 1950. The main purpose of the day is to encourage, facilitate and make sure all Indians eligible for voting are enrolled. Special attention is given to the new voters.

Theme of National Voters’ Day 2024

In honour of the voters, the NVD 2024 theme, ‘Nothing Like Voting, I Vote For Sure,’ carries forward the theme from the previous year. The Chief Guest at the national function in New Delhi, organized by the Election Commission of India, will be the President of India, Droupadi Murmu. The Guest of Honour for the event will be Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State for Law and Justice (Independent Charge).

The event will also witness the presence of Heads and representatives from Election Management bodies in countries such as Maldives, Philippines, Russia, Sri Lanka, and Uzbekistan.
