Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi assumes charge as Vice Chief of Army Staff


Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi assumed the appointment of Vice Chief of Army Staff (VCOAS) of the Army on Monday. He assumed the office, replacing the outgoing VCOAS, Lieutenant Kumar MV Suchindra Kumar.

After his induction into office, Lt. General Upendra Dwivedi paid homage to the Bravehearts at the National War Memorial (NWM) and reviewed the Guard of Honour.

Lt. General Dwivedi is an alumnus of Sainik School in Rewa, the National Defence Academy, and the Indian Military Academy.

He has held several notable positions in his career. Lt. General Dwivedi was commissioned into the 18th Battalion of Jammu and Kashmir Rifles in December 1984. Subsequently, he commanded in the Kashmir Valley and the deserts of Rajasthan.

Dwivedi has also served as deputy chief at Army Headquarters and headed the 9th Corps in Himachal Pradesh. He was also Director-General of Infantry.
