With the 2024 Lok Sabha election on the horizon, the political battleground in Thrissur, the cultural capital of Kerala, India, is ready for a three-way intense fight. A stronghold of the Left Democratic Front (LDF), Thrissur is now seeing the potential rise of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with Congress also making considerable efforts. Thrissur is the seat of the cultural heritage of Kerala, housing the Vadakumnadhan temple and Guruvayoor temple, and is famous for its vibrant Thrissur Puram festival. BJP star candidate Suresh Gobi, actor and former Rajya Sabha MP, will likely represent the party, investing significant time and effort in developing a substantial public image. Meanwhile, the Congress party might field the incumbent MP, T. N. Pratabhan, relying on the support of a considerable Christian population within the constituency. The LDF, traditionally having strong support in Thrissur, has a potential candidate in BS Sunil Kumar, a familiar face and former LDF cabinet minister. The electoral fight in Thrissur will provide an interesting case study in upcoming political dynamics in Kerala, and possibly India overall.
