The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Wednesday finalised its list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Kerala, sources told India Today TV. However, the official announcement will be made only after discussions with the party’s national leadership on February 26.
The party is set to field prominent figures, including former Health Minister KK Shailaja, former Finance Minister Thomas Isaac, and current cabinet minister K Radhakrishnan, among others, sources said.
CPM has decided to contest 15 out of the 20 Lok Sabha seats in Kerala, allocating 4 seats to the Communist Party of India (CPI) and one seat to the Kerala Congress(M).
The decision on the candidate list was made during CPI(M) State Secretariat meeting held earlier in the day. Among the selected CPM candidates are a member of the politburo, three district secretaries, and four central committee members.
In the upcoming elections, politburo member and ex-MP A Vijayaraghavan is set to vie for the Palakkad constituency, while AM Ariff is likely to secure his position in the Alappuzha seat.
The district secretaries, namely MV Balakrishnan, MV Jayarajan, and V Joy, are slated to contest the Kasaragod, Kannur, and Attingal seats, respectively.
The electoral battleground in Kerala will also witness the participation of key figures, with former Finance Minister Thomas Isaac seeking victory from Pathanamthitta, former Health Minister K.K Shailaja contesting from Vadakara, Elamaram Kareem competing in Kozhikode, and incumbent minister K Radhakrishnan making a bid for the Alathoor seat.
The CPM is banking on the experience of actor Mukesh, who will once again represent the party in Kollam, and Joyce George, who might contest the Idukki seat.
Additionally, former minister C Raveendranath is geared up for the electoral race in the Chalakudy constituency.
