The Income Tax department found crocodiles and reptiles during a raid on the home of former BJP MLA Harvansh Singh Rathore in Madhya Pradesh.
The tax officials have been raiding the properties linked to Rathore and former councillor Rajesh Kesharwani, a bidi manufacturer, building construction contractor and former BJP corporator in Sagar since Sunday on allegations of evasion of crores in tax. During their raid on Friday, January 10, as many as three crocodiles and other reptiles were found by the tax officials, after which the forest department was alerted.
The forest officials rescued the crocodiles and other replies after being informed by the Income Tax personnel.
Confirming the development, Madhya Pradesh’s Head of Forest Force Aseem Shrivastava told news agency PTI that a case has been registered under the Wildlife Protection Act in this regard. The action was taken after forest department personnel were notified about the presence of crocodiles by IT sleuths, he added.
“The health of the crocodiles is being examined. We will intimate the court about them and proceed accordingly,” Shrivastava added.
Shrivastava, however, did not say how many crocodiles were rescued or who was the owner of the house.
