Former Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra’s explanation on why she should be allowed to continue staying in the government bungalow allotted to her was found unsatisfactory by the Directorate of Estates (DoE), sources told India Today on Tuesday.
The government may soon issue an eviction notice to the expelled Lok Sabha MP, asking her to vacate the bungalow, the sources added.
The DoE had sent two notices to Moitra demanding an explanation as to why she should be given an extension to vacate the government-provided accommodation.
Mahua Moitra was expelled from Lok Sabha on December 8 last year, and was asked to vacate the house by January 7 after her allotment was cancelled. Afterwards, she had approached the Delhi High Court over the matter.
However, on January 4, the court asked the TMC leader to approach the DoE with a request to allow her to continue to occupy the government bungalow.
Mahua Moitra was expelled after the Lok Sabha’s Ethics Committee found her guilty of accepting gifts and illegal gratification from a businessman to ask questions in Parliament.
The panel had initiated a probe based on a complaint filed by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey who accused Moitra of asking questions in the Lok Sabha to target the Adani Group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the behest of businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for gifts.
