For what feels like the umpteenth time this NFL season, the conversation the morning after a game day revolves around the officiating.

On Tuesday, this centers on Chicago Bears coach Matt Nagy’s reaction in the first half of a 17-9 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on “Monday Night Football.”

Nagy received an unsportsmanlike conduct flag – one of Chicago’s five personal foul penalties – between the first and second quarter, two plays after Deon Bush was whistled for a questionable unnecessary roughness call that prolonged a Vikings scoring drive.

“When (the language) crosses the line and it’s inappropriate, we throw a flag,” referee Scott Novak told the pool reporter Monday.

Two other costly 15-yard penalties came on Minnesota’s second touchdown drive in the third quarter. On a third-and-long, Teez Tabor was called for going low to tackle Vikings running back Dalvin Cook, and Trevis Gipson was flagged for unnecessary roughness after a stop 2 yards behind the line of scrimmage of Cook deep in Chicago territory.

“Honestly, some of these calls are starting to get a little crazy,” Bears defensive end Robert Quinn said. “These refs seem like they control the game a little too much. … I mean let guys play ball. Just a couple years ago, half of this stuff wouldn’t even be called.”

Overall, the Bears’ defense held Cook to 89 rushing yards on 28 carries and kept standout receiver Justin Jefferson (four catches, 47 yards, one touchdown) in check. Quarterback Kirk Cousins finished with a season-low 87 yards.
