Milind Deora likely to join Shiv Sena, Eknath Shinde says he will welcome Deora to party

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stated that his party, Shiv Sena, would welcome former Union Minister Milind Deora, who resigned from the Congress earlier in the day, if he chooses to join.

”I have heard about his move. If he is joining the party, I will welcome him,” Shinde said, without elaborating further.

Milind Deora, a senior Congress figure in Maharashtra and former MP from South Mumbai, announced his resignation from the party this morning. His decision reportedly stems from dissatisfaction with the discussions surrounding Lok Sabha seat-sharing between the Congress and the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena faction.

In a post on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, earlier in the day Deora said, ”Today marks the conclusion of a significant chapter in my political journey. I have tendered my resignation from the primary membership of the Congress, ending my family’s 55 year relationship with the party. I am grateful to all leaders, colleagues and karyakartas for their unwavering support over the years.”

Speculation has been rife in political circles over the past few days that he is likely to join the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena.

Commenting on the reports, Deora told the media that he is “listening to my supporters”. “Haven’t taken a decision yet,” he added.
