An Indian Navy Dornier aircraft from INS Garuda in Kochi successfully evacuated a patient from Agatti Island in Lakshadweep on the intervening night of March 11 and 12, officials said.
The medical evaluation took place after the Southern Naval Command received an urgent plea from the Lakshadweep administration, citing a patient in critical need of factor transfusion for life-saving measures.
The naval Dornier was launched and swiftly dispatched to Agatti Island, situated approximately 250 nautical miles from Kochi.
The patient was airlifted and transported to a civilian hospital in Kochi at 3.30 am for further medical attention.
“The successful evacuation from Lakshadweep Islands has brought forth the Navy’s operational readiness and commitment towards crisis response and humanitarian assistance,” an official said.
