Pinarayi Vijayan seeks Opposition’s support to take on Centre over ‘neglecting Kerala’

Political leaders in Kerala, cutting across party lines, are likely to come together to stage a protest in Delhi on February 8 against the Centre. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, along with all the cabinet ministers, LDF MLAs and MPs will take part in the demonstration.

Vijayan held discussions with the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the state Assembly VD Satheesan, and Deputy Opposition leader PK Kunhalikutty, seeking the UDF’s support in the protest. However, it is yet to be decided if the Opposition leaders will join the protest at the Jantar Mantar.

On the day of protests in Delhi, elected panchayat members of the LDF will organise booth-level marches and meetings in all panchayats to communicate to the people about the Centre’s negligence towards the state.

LDF Convenor EP Jayarajan said that the Chief Minister plans to write to all union ministers, chief ministers, and other party leaders about the issues in the state.

The ruling CPI(M)-led LDF and Opposition Congress-led UDF leaders alleged that the Centre has been neglecting the southern state.

The government in Kerala has been demanding the Centre to release funds to the state. Earlier, Union Minister V Muraleedharan held the Kerala government responsible for financial mismanagement in the state.
