Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday addressed viral memes about himself and Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni during his podcast debut on the ‘People by WTF’ series, hosted by Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath. The light-hearted conversation touched on various aspects of the PM’s life, including his approach to food and reflections on his early days in public life.
Kamath asked the Prime Minister about the “Melodi memes” that have gained traction online over the past two years. “PM Sir, as we are talking about other countries, if I may digress a little, I must say my favourite food is pizza, which originates from Italy. People often say that you know a lot about Italy. Would you like to share something about it? Haven’t you seen those memes?” he asked.
PM Modi responded, “Wo toh chalta rehta hai (that’s an ongoing thing).”
He added that he does not focus on memes or online discussions. “I’m not a foodie, whatever is served in any country. I eat happily,” he said.
Reflecting on his personal preferences, PM Modi shared that he finds it difficult to decide what to order when presented with a menu. “If someone gives me a menu, I won’t be able to decide what to eat. I’m not a foodie,” he said.
The Prime Minister also recounted his early days working for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), where he often relied on the late Arun Jaitley to navigate restaurant menus.
“I don’t know if the dish that is mentioned in the menu and the food in front of me are the same thing. I do not have knowledge. I am ignorant because I have not developed that tendency. So I don’t understand much about it, so I always used to ask Arun ji to order food for me, it just needed to be vegetarian,” he said.
During the two-hour podcast, PM Modi shared several anecdotes, touching on his childhood, education, entry into politics, challenges, stress management, and key policy decisions.
