Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday (December 10) strongly dismissed the BJP’s allegations that former Congress president Sonia Gandhi has direct links with billionaire philanthropist George Soros.
“This is the most ridiculous thing they can come up with. They are talking about 1994, and nobody has any record of it. I don’t know what they are referring to. They are doing this because they don’t want to run the House,” Priyanka Gandhi said.
She further accused the government of avoiding a discussion on the Adani issue, saying, “We want the House to function, but the government doesn’t want a debate on Adani. That’s why they keep bringing up distractions like this. The Soros matter is from 1994, and they are deliberately raising it now to evade discussions on Adani.”
The comments were in response to BJP chief JP Nadda, who alleged that Sonia Gandhi and the Congress have links with George Soros, claiming an association with an organisation funded by the Soros Foundation, which allegedly backed the idea of separating Kashmir from India.
Congress Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tiwari also dismissed the allegations, calling them “baseless, cheap, and completely wrong.”
The accusations led to chaos in the Rajya Sabha, with Opposition MPs staging an uproar and raising slogans against the ruling party. Congress leaders argued that the allegations are an attempt to divert attention from pressing issues, including the Adani controversy.
The BJP, in a series of posts on X, alleged that the Congress’s association with foreign entities like the George Soros Foundation indicates external influence in India’s internal affairs.
The BJP claimed that Sonia Gandhi, as the co-president of the Forum of the Democratic Leaders in Asia Pacific (FDL-AP) Foundation, was linked to an organisation financed by the George Soros Foundation.
The Congress, however, has categorically denied these claims, accusing the BJP of engaging in baseless propaganda.
