Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar slams Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann over murders, extortions, kidnappings in state

Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar has called out the AAP-led state government, claiming murders, extortions and kidnappings have made residents of the state live in fear, but Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann did not seem worried about it.

Jakhar said that the failure of the Mann-led Punjab government to prevent the daylight murder of Tarn Taran village sarpanch Sonu Cheema, despite regular warnings, had exposed the poor law and order in the border state.

He further claimed there is a constant lack of trust among the people of Punjab in the state government’s policy of protecting their lives and properties.

Jakhar said that incidents of murders and threats have become so common that these are now a part of the daily lives of Punjab residents. “The Chief Minister and his officers are only interested in issuing advertisements and customary press conferences to blurt out fake numbers, while people on the ground are depressed and dismayed at the dismal state of affairs,” the Punjab BJP chief said.

“Punjab is getting a bad name due to the administrative apathy of this regime and the tag of incompetence would be difficult to shrug off,” Jakhar said, expressing concern over the state’s ability to attract positive investment and interest from investors in the near future.

He asked how investors would show interest in Punjab when there are “videos of jailed gangsters celebrating birthday parties with impunity”.
